소개

미국의 정치인으로 3번째 미국 대통령(재임 1801년 ~ 1809년)이자 미국 독립 선언서의 기초자이다(1776년). 제퍼슨은 영향력 있는 건국의 아버지 중 한 사람으로, 미국 공화주의의 이상을 추구함으로 역대 대통령 중 존경을 받는 대통령 중의 한 사람이다. 그의 대통령 재임 기간 중 일어난 큰 업적은 루이지애나 매입[3]과 루이스와 클라크의 서부 원정, 지중해 해적 소탕등이며 소수의견의 존중, 종교·언론·출판 자유의 확립 등에 주력하였다.
